Martin's Info Greetings to everyone visiting my website; this is my official homepage. Please drop by to find information about my professional activities, as well as my annotations on websites concerned with digital libraries and various other topics that are of interest to me. Dr. Martin Halbert is Dean of Libraries at the University of North Texas. He is starting in this new position as of October 1, 2009. Here is a news release on this.

Previously he served as Director of Digital Innovations for Emory University. In that capacity he directed a a variety of digital library research projects and services for the Emory General Libraries. He was responsible for researching and leading library information technology initiatives, including all digital scholarly communication projects of the MetaScholar Initiative (http://www.MetaScholar.org). The staff of Digital Innovations included librarians, scholarly communication analysts, and systems programmers/support staff. He was the principal investigator for research projects totaling $6M. He recently established the MetaArchive Digital Preservation Network (http://www.MetaArchive.org), a cooperative of 12 university libraries and other cultural memory organizations acting in concert with the Library of Congress as part of the National Digital Preservation Program.

Current Projects List

Latest: Emory University Libraries, in collaboration with the University of North Texas School of Library and Information Science and the Atlanta University Center’s Robert W. Woodruff Library, has been awarded $778,409 by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to increase the number and diversity of students enrolled in ALA-accredited graduate library programs in upper Georgia and to prepare these students for an array of 21st Century library careers with an emphasis on digital knowledge management.

This program will be inaugurated on the 20th anniversary of the closure of the Emory Library School, and will provide a new opportunity for Emory to facilitate the creation of new librarians in the North Georgia region. The project will take place over a period of 36 months starting in September 2007.
